大魔法使いの祖父と、森の奥でひっそりと慎ましく暮らしていた魔法使いのルシル。ある日、魔法使い狩りに遭う。住んでいた森や庵を人間に焼かれ、傷を負い、祖父の最後の転送魔法で難を逃れた。転送先は住んでいた森から遠く、誰もいないどこか。冷たい雨が降りしきり、世界は灰色で、ルシルはぬかるんだ泥の中で死を待っていた。そこへ、二つのものが現れる。右手からは暖かで優しい光が。左手からは冷たく、しかし蠱惑的な闇が。その時、「選択せよ」という言葉が死にかけた魔法使いの頭の中に響いた。魔法使いは、どちらの手を取るのか。そして、彼に待ち受ける運命は――
